Fun and Weird Places to Go in Baltimore

There’s no shortage of interesting places to go in Baltimore, from strange independent bookstores to Ripley’s Believe It or Not. You’ll be able to spend days exploring Baltimore without experiencing a single dull moment. Here are some of the many unusual sights you won’t likely find anywhere else.

Atomic Books

This independent bookstore is full of things outside of just books, including art toys, old and new comics, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, art exhibits, and zines. They also have many types of showcases for artists, writers, and others who want to self-publish their work. There’s also a bar called Eightbar in the back of the place to enjoy reading and drinking.

The fact that this is one of John Waters’ favorite Baltimore hangouts should let you know what you can expect when walking through these doors.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Want to see the weirdest that Baltimore has to offer? Visit Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for everything weird. While most of the things you’ll find inside aren’t necessarily from Baltimore, it’s an interesting place to visit for crazy artwork, shrunken heads, mysterious mutations, hands-on activities, and other insane things.

There’s enough to see here to keep your afternoons full.

The True Vine

If you’re a music fiend who loves vinyl, you might just love taking a look around The True Vine, the perfect place to browse some records. They have pretty much any old-school vinyl you want to add to your collection. Choose from popular artists to some of the most obscure artists around.

Rocket To Venus

Looking for a unique place to eat in Baltimore? Visit Rocket to Venus, a traditional restaurant with some nontraditional cuisine. Some of their original menu items include Coconut French Toast, mac and cheese with chives and pangrattato (I don’t know what this is), wild mushroom and grits, BBQ octopus, and PB&J Delight, which is made of a PB&J sandwich dipped in pancake batter, deep fried and topped with caramel and chocolate sauce, along with vanilla bean ice cream, which will probably kill you halfway through eating it and should come with a warning sign.

It’s not exactly health food, but you’re likely to find some food you won’t probably find elsewhere.

Geppi’s Entertainment Museum

Want to see some crazy exhibits outside of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! brand? Visit Geppi’s Entertainment Museum, which is a 16,000-square-foot museum dedicated to showcasing entertainment media from the early days of America and beyond.

The exhibits chronicle 17th century pop culture (which I realize may sound like an oxymoron) through today’s. Nearly 60,000 pop culture artifacts are inside, including movie posters, toys, badges, buttons, magazines, dolls, sports memorabilia, and much more.

These are simply some of the many places to visit for everything exciting and strange in Baltimore. If you have any other suggestions for places to visit while in town, let us know about them in the comments!
